We offer a wide range of ecological services delivered by two very knowledgable and highly experienced ecological consultants.
Plant ecology:
Phase I habitat survey, Phase II and III vegetation surveys, use of
National Vegetation Classification, sampling and vegetation monitoring
systems.
Animal ecology: terrestrial and freshwater invertebrate and vertebrate surveys and monitoring.
Soil survey: field assessments of soil properties, sampling and laboratory analysis.
Ecological assessment:
ecology reports for environmental statements, ecological impact
assessment. Habitat management: preparation of management plans for
woodland, grassland, heathland, wetland and freshwater sites in upland,
lowland and coastal situations.
Habitat restoration: preparation of restoration plans, advice for enhancement and mitigation, project management and development.
Advice and research: nature conservation advice and applied ecological research and monitoring. Biodiversity action plans and related work.
Principal ecologists:
Dr Sam Ellis HND BSc (Hons) PhD MIEEM
is principally an invertebrate ecologist, specialising in butterflies.
He also works on freshwater and woodland invertebrates, as well as
undertaking Phase l Habitat, National Vegetation Classification and
soil surveys. He has an extensive knowledge of practical habitat
management and a particular interest in grassland management for nature
conservation. He has prepared management plans for woodlands, wetlands
and freshwater sites, as well as being involved in several habitat
restoration projects and in mitigation work for developers. Sam is also
a part-time lecturer in ecology, nature conservation and countryside
management at the Universities of Sunderland and Durham.
Dr. Moira Owen BSc (Hons) PhD
has wide-ranging ecological interests with particular expertise in
botanical recording; experience of a variety of standard survey
methodologies such as Phase 1 Habitat surveys, National Vegetation
Classification, river corridor surveys and interests in birds and
mammals, with research experience in mustelid carnivores. She has had
extensive employment in nature conservation, with wide experience of
practical conservation management, the preparation of management plans,
ecological surveys and monitoring, planning consultations, impact
assessment and habitat restoration. Knowledge of habitat conservation,
management and restoration is comprehensive, but with particular
strengths in freshwater and wetlands, grasslands and upland habitats.
