Development
plans layout the future aspirations and goals for a site or area. They
are valuable in providing focus, for promoting objectives and obtaining
funding from within your organisation or from exernal funding
agencies. The consultation process involved ensures support for your
projects.
Examples
Drinkfield Marsh
Drinkfield
Marsh is an area of natural open space including wetland and open water
on the outskirts of Darlington. It is surrounded by housing and
industry. It has been used for informal recreation for a number of
years but has been troubled by the misuse often seen in urban fringe
sites. Its potential for future formal and informal recreation and
community involvement led to the production of a development plan after
public consultation at all levels. On the basis of the plan a Community
Countryside Officer has been appointed and substantial external funding
obtained for a number of major projects. The site is currently being
improved to the benefit of the local community.
Stillington Greenway
A
proposal to link a number of minor and under-used sites, including
Stillington Forest Park, to Hardwick Hall Country Park in Co. Durham,
was developed. The aim is to produce a "greenway" for cyclists, horse-
riders and walkers to enjoy free of the worry of heavy traffic. Making
use of existing under-used facilities and rights of way the proposal
has the potential to be a major recreational asset with minimal
financial outlay.
